The 62713 by Newport is a Xenon (Xe) Arc Lamp that has a UV to visible spectrum emission that is relatively smooth. The operating wavelength sits in the 750 nm - 1000 nm range, which makes this lamp optimal for a variety of applications. This lamp’s optimal applications include solar simulation, source spectral scanning, fluorescence, and absorption with its color temperature of about 5800 K and emission spectrum that mimics the sun. Because the 62713 can emit dangerous levels of UV radiation, the user wear necessary safety equipment like protective gloves, clothing, and eyewear when operating this equipment. It is recommended to block the beam with an electronic shutter when the source is still turned on but not being utilized. In order to deliver the light to a sample, the beam can also be contained within fiber optic cables or beam tubes. Additionally, this lamp is compatible with a 6177 socket adapter model, which holds the lamp at the proper optical height for the rear reflector and condenser. To optimize the position and to compensate for variations between lamps, lamp adjusters and rear reflectors are provided to the user.
