The Newport 6300 is a Velocity Tunable Diode Laser Controller, designed to provide a dependable, low-noise power source for laser diodes. This controller offers precise temperature control for the laser head, facilitates wavelength scanning commands, and furnishes comprehensive readouts of pertinent laser parameters. The controller has a sophisticated circuitry, designed with both analog and digital layers. The analog layer of the 6300 has low-noise architecture, catering to the fine-tuning needs of wavelength, current, and temperature. The digital layer serves as a user-friendly interface bridging the gap between the operator or computer and the analog subsystem. This controller can modulate the current supply at frequencies of up to 1 MHz through a conveniently accessible BNC jack located on the rear panel.
The 6300 enables microprocessor-based motion control, affording users hands-free wavelength scanning. Users can effortlessly define start and stop wavelengths as well as scanning speeds, all while a microprocessor-controlled DC motor handles the execution. The unique cavity design incorporated into the controller ensures continuous tuning while minimizing mode hopping, enhancing the device's performance. For ease of operation and monitoring, the 6300 is equipped with five LED digital readouts, presenting crucial operating parameters such as diode temperature and wavelength. Adjustments can be made through the front panel of the controller or, alternatively, via a connected PC, offering a user-friendly interface for setting and reading various operating parameters and executing specific actions.
The 6300 is designed to operate seamlessly in two distinct modes: Remote mode and Local mode, with the choice of mode being independent of computer or manual control. In either mode, users have the flexibility to set or scan wavelengths, while external knobs or internal digital-to-analog converters (DACs) can be employed for remote control over piezo voltage, diode temperature, and diode current. The rear panel of the 6300 features several input and output connectors, facilitating operation with external analog or digital signals. Two connectors, Cable A and Cable B, establish connections between the controller and the laser head, with Cable A transmitting analog signals and Cable B carrying digital information. Additionally, an Interlock connector is provided, offering compatibility with external safety systems for enhanced operational security.
