The 8350 by Newport is a Temperature Controller Module designed to seamlessly integrate with the 8000 Modular Controller, catering to a wide range of Thermoelectric (TE) cooling applications. Engineered for the comprehensive characterization of telecom laser diodes, the 8350 offers an array of characterization capabilities, encompassing Input Thermal Efficiency (ITE), Voltage Thermal Efficiency (VTE), and sensor input functionalities. This module can be configured to function in various modes including constant temperature maintenance, constant TE current regulation, and consistent resistance, LM335 voltage, or AD592 operation modes. This module boasts exceptional stability metrics, featuring short-term stability surpassing 0.0005°C and long-term stability better than 0.001°C.
The 8350 accommodates four distinct sensor types: thermistors, AD590, LM335, and 100Ω Platinum Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTD). While IC sensors inherently provide temperature readings, thermistors and RTDs present temperature values in degrees Celsius through input of specific constants. Each sensor can undergo calibration to enhance precision. The 8350 offers integration capabilities with an LDD module, enabling the automatic shutdown of Laser Diode Drivers (LDD) and display of error notifications in instances where the laser diode's temperature exceeds pre-defined operational limits. Integral to its functionality, both the High Temperature Indicator (THI) and Low Temperature Indicator (TLO) are established during the module's configuration. Additionally, an independent ITE current limit serves to safeguard the thermoelectric module against potential damage resulting from excessive current levels exceeding its maximum threshold.
