The LCM-39425 by Newport is an advanced Current Source/TE Controller Module designed to seamlessly integrate with the LDC3900 Modular Laser Diode Controller, functioning as both a current source and temperature controller. This module is specifically engineered for installation within any of the four available bays on the rear panel of the LDC-3900, facilitating interchangeability with other LDC3900 modules. Distinguished by its service-free modularity and closed-case calibration, the LCM-39425 boasts exceptional stability and low noise characteristics. The module's compatibility is enhanced by its compatibility with the LDC-3900 Save/Recall front panel functions, ensuring a flexible and convenient setup. The inclusion of a photodiode feedback control mode further underscores its versatile capabilities.
For connection to the laser diode, the LCM-39425 is equipped with a 9-pin D-connector on its back panel. It is advisable to activate the compatible LDC-9000 controller and deactivate the LASER output prior to establishing connections with sensitive devices like laser diodes. This precautionary measure engages a low impedance shunt across the output terminals, safeguarding the equipment during the connection process. In order to establish connections, shielded twisted wire pairs with earth-ground shielding are recommended. Notably, the output terminal of the LCM-39425 is intentionally isolated from earth ground to mitigate potential AC power on/off transients that may occur within an earth-grounded path. Users should exercise caution to prevent the creation of multiple earth grounds within the circuit, as such instances could introduce unintended currents in the photodiode feedback circuit and output leads.
The back panel connector of the LCM-39425 accommodates both the current supply output and the photodiode signal input, maintained at a zero bias. This internal photodiode connection is capable of monitoring back facet emission from the laser, and its electric isolation from the laser inputs ensures optimal operational integrity. Furthermore, the module's LASER outputs are isolated from chassis ground, affording users the choice to ground either output terminal as per their requirements. For managing a booster current source, the LCM-39425 can effectively interpret a control signal of up to +10.0 volts. This provision is especially valuable in situations where the module's 8-watt output might prove insufficient to control a demanding thermal load.
