The Newport LDC-3742B is a Laser Diode Controller that is designed for precision control over laser diode temperature and current parameters. This controller combines a low-noise current source boasting exceptional stability with an integrated 32W temperature controller, purpose-built for the management of laser diode conditions. With its meticulous design, user-friendly interface, and dependable performance, the LDC-3742B caters comprehensively to a diverse range of low to medium power laser diode testing and control requirements. Additionally, this controller is primarily intended for laser diodes featuring dual-range current sources (50/100mA and 200/500mA).

The LDC-3742B is equipped with a multitude of safeguard mechanisms, including output shorting relays, intermittent contact protection, customizable current limit and compliance voltage settings, as well as a gradual start-up feature. In research and development as well as production scenarios, the LDC-3742B supports remote operation via a GPIB/IEEE-488 interface. To facilitate seamless integration into automated measurement setups, a trigger output is available to signal changes in current steps for measurement initiation. Notably, the controller ensures unwavering optical output precision by offering a highly accurate 16-bit current source with a deviation of just 0.05%. It is capable of delivering remarkable stability as low as 20 ppm, coupled with a mere 1.5 µA of noise.

The LDC-3742B advanced control algorithm guarantees temperature stability within a remarkable range of 0.004°C. This controller extends its temperature control functionality from -100°C to 199.9°C, offering a selection of RTD, IC, or thermistor temperature sensors. These sensors enable temperature regulation in constant TE current, constant sensor, or constant temperature modes. The LDC-3742B has three distinct modes for laser diode current control: constant optical power, constant current with low bandwidth, and constant current with high bandwidth. The low bandwidth constant current mode is optimized for DC operation, yielding improved laser protection and noise performance. In contrast, the high bandwidth constant current mode permits higher modulation frequencies of up to 1 MHz, suitable for precision wavelength and power tuning.

The front panel of the LDC-3742B is thoughtfully organized into separate TEC and LASER sections, streamlining navigation and data display without the complexity of multi-layer menus. Equipped with easily readable, bright 5-digit LED displays, both channels can be conveniently addressed from the front panel's "adjust" section. Adjusting and selecting TEC and LASER parameters and modes is intuitive via a rotary digital encoder and responsive push buttons. The LDC-3742B simplifies routine maintenance tasks. Calibration of the laser current source and TE controller can be seamlessly executed using either the front panel or the GPIB/IEEE-488 interface, eliminating the need for manual adjustments or controller disassembly. Moreover, all calibration data is automatically stored in the on-board non-volatile memory, ensuring accessibility and convenience.
