The Newport LDC-3916374 is a Laser Diode Controller Module, boasting dual functionality as both a temperature controller and current source for laser diodes. These include a 4-wire voltage measurement configuration for precise assessment of laser diode forward voltage, customizable compliance voltage limit adjustments, and detection of contact bounce. Embedded within the module is a bipolar temperature controller compatible with thermistor-type temperature sensors, enabling meticulous control of laser temperature across an expansive range. The LDC-3916374 is efficiently interconnected with a laser diode controller output using twisted wire pairs that incorporate an earth-grounded shield for optimal performance.

The LDC-3916374 incorporates a 4-wire voltage sense functionality that segregates laser voltage sensing from the laser current drive connections. The module necessitates the connection of all four pins for seamless operation, affording heightened accuracy in laser voltage measurements for voltage limit features. Notably, an internal photodiode is integrated into the module to monitor back facet emissions of the laser. This photodiode, along with the laser connections, is electrically isolated from both ground and one another—a departure from conventional modules wherein the photodiode is internally linked to either the laser cathode or anode. Additionally, the LASER outputs are insulated from chassis ground, allowing users the flexibility to ground any output terminal according to their preference.

With the 15-pin connector located on the rear panel, the LDC-3916374 can facilitate connections to thermoelectric cooler (TEC) modules of lasers or laser mounts, as well as temperature sensors. Comprehensive connections encompass the TEC module, temperature sensor, earth ground, and analog ground. The module operates seamlessly in Constant Current low bandwidth mode, offering a set point of 150 mA, a current limit of 175 mA, and a voltage limit of 6 volts. The low bandwidth mode markedly mitigates noise through the application of a low-pass filter on the laser drive current output. Furthermore, this module facilitates constant optical power operation for a 3 mW laser at 1 mW in Constant Optical Power Mode. The LDC-3916374 ensures exceptional stability and minimal noise output, bolstered by diverse hardware current limits and laser protection features. Notable safeguards encompass protection against shorting circuits, gradual turn-on procedures, adjustable compliance voltage limits, and intermittent contact safeguards.
