The P5000 by Newport is a Programmable Counter, designed for various applications involving the accumulation of input pulses and the measurement of parameters such as frequency ratio, period, frequency, and time interval. This counter features a user-friendly menu-driven interface, offering a seamless programming experience. The six-digit resolution display incorporates alphanumeric prompts, simplifying programming through intuitive front panel push buttons. Navigating through functions and settings is straightforward, as users can effortlessly traverse the options by selecting the appropriate buttons. The P5000's design facilitates accessibility, allowing the device to be easily slid out from the rear of the case. Its front panel is adeptly designed for display board mounting, adhering to the NEMA-4 standard for enhanced durability. Notably, the front panel is not detachable, ensuring a secure and dependable configuration.

The P5000 can be programmed using a personal computer. The RS-232 port enables data monitoring of the display, enhancing real-time insights. Programming configurations can be stored in non-volatile memory, readily retrievable upon device startup or when information recall is necessary. The counter's utility extends to acting as an ON-OFF Controller for both computer-controlled systems and standalone applications. Equipped with two setpoints and corresponding alarm outputs, the P5000 offers enhanced control functionalities. Calibration of the crystal time base can be performed electronically, either through a personal computer or the front panel interface. Crafted with precision and practicality, this counter boasts a "Designer" meter circuit board design, elegantly housed within a robust 4896 1/8-DIN plastic case and sleeve. Waterproof sealing of push buttons, display lens, and bezel to the base ensures reliable operation even in challenging environments. The electronic assembly seamlessly integrates with the case via six front pins, securely mating with internal connectors through the flexible side panel detents.
