The 401 by Newport is a XY Linear Stage that seamlessly integrates two orthogonal positioners into a single, compact unit featuring a low-profile design. This stage's innovative design revolves around three parallel plates, imparting it with an impressive maximum load capacity of up to 100 pounds. The top and bottom plates of this stage are equipped with bearing blocks that house pre-loaded linear ball bushings. This configuration ensures exceptionally smooth travel over each axis, covering distances exceeding 0.5 inches with minimal deviation, measuring less than 200 µrad. The inner plate of the stage is engineered to support precision-hardened and polished pairs of steel rods, which glide smoothly within the bushings. To minimize backlash, a spring mechanism applies pressure to the moving assemblies against the actuator tip. The adaptability of the 401 stage is further enhanced by its ability to be mounted in any orientation, with an array of 1/4-20 tapped holes.
