The 460A-XYZ by Newport is a Low-Profile Integrated Ball Bearing Linear Stage that boasts an integrated and modular design, providing increased versatility for various applications. This linear stage is equipped with a user-removable Z-axis stage/bracket, enabling effortless conversion to an XY model. Constructed entirely from aluminum, the 460A-XYZ features hardened ball bearings along opposite pairs of stainless steel rods that are hardened and polished. This design choice enhances the straightness of travel while resulting in a lower load capacity compared to stages equipped with crossed-roller bearings.

To ensure backlash-free motion, the 460A-XYZ utilizes a spring-loaded mechanism against the drive actuator. The vertical-drive assemblies effectively bear the load through the actuator spindle, offering positive load support instead of relying solely on the springs. Despite its lightweight nature and lower load capacity, this stage exhibits exceptional travel straightness throughout its 0.5-inch (or 13 mm) travel range, with a deviation of less than 150 µrad. This linear stage features convenient external mounting tabs, eliminating the need for precise positioning for mounting through hole exposure. Consequently, this linear stage facilitates quick implementation into optical systems by providing the easiest mounting process, regardless of the stage's initial position. Additionally, the 460A-XYZ is optimized for a right-handed configuration and is compatible with both motorized and manual actuators, accommodating a wide range of precision requirements.
