The Newport 462-XYZ-M is a ULTRAlign XYZ Linear Stage designed for precise positioning and stability. Constructed with stainless steel and steel crossed-roller bearings, this stage offers optimal performance and high stability. It provides linear 1.0 inch XYZ travel with exceptional angular deviation of better than 100 μrad around any axis. The 462-XYZ-M stage addresses the limitations of traditional tooling industry designs for multi-axis stages. It features actuators located away from oversized loads, generous 1/4-20 hole patterns for easy mounting, and a removable mounting base that allows for a lower profile setup.

One of the key advantages of the 462-XYZ-M is its use of optimally pre-loaded crossed roller bearings. These bearings eliminate susceptibility to vibrations, unlike spring-flexures commonly used for ultra-precise positioning. The stage's low frequency response makes it highly sensitive to lab activities, where even minor movements or touching of flexure components or the optical table can cause significant variations in the output signal. By leveraging the precision and stability provided by the crossed roller bearings, the 462-XYZ-M often allows for manual micrometers to replace piezoelectric actuators without sacrificing positioning performance.

Stainless steel construction is employed for all major structural components of the 462-XYZ-M stage. The stage's higher mass and larger diameter bearings contribute to its superior thermal immunity compared to aluminum stages, while also increasing stiffness. The 462-XYZ-M stage has actuator mounting blocks that are designed specially for simple actuator changes on any axis. A variety of manual or motorized actuators are compatible with this stage. The right-handed configuration of the 462-XYZ-M offers sub-micron stability over a temperature change of 10°C. Generous hole patterns with English (1/4-20) threaded holes and spacing facilitate easy mounting. The mounting base can be removed to achieve a lower profile. Additionally, the preloaded crossed-roller bearings ensure repeatable, smooth linear motion without stick-slip or significant side-play. The roller strips hold the cylindrical rollers inclined at 90° angles to ensure constant linear contact with the hardened and ground ways.
