The 850G by Newport is a Closed-Loop Precision Actuator that provides exceptional motion control performance within a compact design. This precision actuator has been meticulously crafted to seamlessly integrate with manual stages and other optomechanical components, serving as a direct and efficient replacement for traditional manual micrometers. The 850G places the lead screw and motor side-by-side, a departure from the conventional end-to-end configuration seen in most actuators. This strategic positioning effectively reduces the length of this actuator by half, mitigating the adverse impact of long cantilever structural loads on submicron positioning repeatability.

The 850G features adjustable limit switches, offering swift customization to achieve travel distances ranging from less than 1 mm to a maximum of 50 mm. Electro-mechanical limit switches are employed to safeguard against actuator damage due to over-travel. Moreover, an intuitively designed manual adjustment knob facilitates quick and precise positioning, even when the motor is powered off. For added convenience, the coarse actuator position is clearly indicated by laser-marked scales in both inches and millimeters. Engineered to excel in demanding industrial OEM environments, the 850G boasts CE certification and is qualified for an impressive 2,000 hours of mean-time between failure (MTBF). This actuator seamlessly interfaces with MotionMaster motion controllers through an integrated 3.5-meter cable.

The 850G’s non-rotating tip prevents positioning errors induced by torque. With configurable travel limits ranging from a mere 1/32 inch to 2 inches, this actuator is compatible with a diverse array of translation stages and mirror mounts. The standard gearbox ratio actuator is capable of delivering a maximum thrust exceeding 25 points, although for continuous operation over numerous cycles, the maximum load is conservatively rated at 18 pounds. Internally, the actuator incorporates a precision-rolled leadscrew with a 0.8 mm pitch, carefully optimized to provide consistent encoder resolution when combined with the standard gearbox ratio. The heart of the 850G lies in its low-inertia DC motor, carefully chosen to ensure smooth movement with minimal acoustic and mechanical noise. The motor's ironless-rotor design enables rapid response, thanks to its exceptionally low inertia.
