The Newport ESP300 is a Single Axis Motion Controller & Driver designed to offer users exceptional functionality at an affordable price. This device integrates both the controller and driver components into a single chassis, streamlining system hookup and enhancing reliability. Its architecture, known as Enhanced System Performance (ESP), encompasses the ESP300 and ESP-compatible stages. This device is capable of driving a single axis of motion in various stepper and DC motor configurations. It can also be utilized as a stand-alone controller to operate an ESP motion device. Equipped with a 32-bit floating point DSP processor, this device ensures precise and synchronized control with high precision.
The ESP300 employs a digital PID-FF servo loop to achieve accurate positioning and track velocity profiles with utmost precision. The device features a programmable micro-step resolution of 1000x, enabling smooth low-speed stepper positioning. Furthermore, the 18-bit DC motor command output enhances stability, making it well-suited for precision applications. The ESP300 is designed to be compact, with an integrated design and bench-top enclosure or rack mountable features at the standard 2U height. Its architecture includes real-time high-speed command processing, motion program storage, advanced motion programming capabilities, complex digital I/O functions, and user-selectable displacement units.
The ESP300 offers multiple positioning modes, including synchronized and unsynchronized point-to-point, linear or circular interpolation, jogging, and continuous path contouring. Electronic gearing enables any axis of the device to be "slaved" to another axis, even when they have different motor/gearhead ratios or lead screw pitches. Advanced motion features such as trajectory, velocity, or on-the-fly position changes facilitate complex alignment and motion routines. The device also includes safety features such as software limits, as well as compensation for linear error and backlash to eliminate repeatable system errors. The ESP300 supports automatic configuration, ensuring true plug-and-play compatibility. PID parameters, gear ratios, and motor types are automatically set upon power-up for user convenience.
With over 100 commands in its powerful programming language, the ESP300 simplifies the programming of complex motions. It features a standard RS-232-C communication link for easy computer interfacing, and an optional IEEE-488 (GPIB) interface for high-speed parallel communication. The non-volatile user program memory provides 64kB of Flash memory, allowing storage of up to 100 user-defined programs for computer-independent usage. Additionally, the ESP300 incorporates a user-friendly front panel interface, offering an intuitive menu system for executing motion programs, configuring operating parameters, and performing manual moves.
