The F-1015LD by Newport is a Precision Single-Mode Fiber Coupler specifically designed for laser diodes. This compact device incorporates a steering lens, enabling it to achieve a remarkable resolution of 0.1 micron. The objective lens of the coupler is coated with an anti-reflective (AR) coating, ensuring high transmittance at wavelengths of 1550 nm, 1300 nm, and 850 nm. The effective focal length measures 12 mm and it is recommended to employ a collimated beam as the incident light for coupling to obtain maximum performance. A range of lenses has been meticulously engineered to meet this requirement. It is worth noting that the F-1015LD can be conveniently mounted using a post-mountable design. Furthermore, it achieves near-theoretical maximum coupling efficiency for single-mode fibers.
The F-1015LD features an input iris, which serves to center the laser beam accurately. The laser beam goes through a steering lens that is configured into a precision X-Y translation assembly mount, complete with adjustment screws allowing for a 100-pitch translation. The objective lens focuses the beam onto the fiber core. By manipulating the steering lens, the focused beam can be precisely translated in a second-order fashion across the fiber end-face, providing an impressive 0.1 μm resolution for beam positioning. Furthermore, this translation exhibits negligible changes in the fiber face’s incident angle. The F-1015LD is user-friendly and fabricated from anodized aluminum, offering durability and ease of use. Notably, this coupler does not include fiber chucks. For optimal coupling, the preferred bare fiber chucks are a four-jaw fiber chuck, equipped with a Teflon liner suitable for fibers with a diameter less than 250 μm, and a Delrin-jawed chuck, designed for fibers ranging from 250 μm to 1 mm in diameter.
