Constructed with an extruded aluminum body, the ILS150PP features threaded holes that have been carefully optimized to counteract bending effects caused by differences in thermal expansion coefficients between the steel rails and aluminum body. This ensures minimal deflection even under heavy loads. The specialized U-profile of the stage enhances its structural stiffness while keeping its overall mass low.
A key component of the ILS150PP is the backlash-free, preloaded ball screw, which facilitates rapid movements with reduced settling times and fast steps. The precisely profiled ball screw minimizes heating, leading to an extended operational life. The inclusion of recirculating ball bearing slides guarantees accurate linear motion and eliminates ball cage migration, common issues seen in typical crossed roller bearings or linear ball bearings. The ILS150PP is equipped with a 4000 pts/rev. encoder, directly mounted on the screw to eliminate screw/motor coupling errors, resulting in improved stage motion accuracy. To protect the drive train from damage and prevent contamination from debris, dust, and other contaminants, an upper rigid cover is installed.
The ILS150PP features elastomeric end-of-run dampers at the travel center for smooth emergency braking, along with limit switches to prevent over-travel and ensure repeatable initialization. The stepper motor in the stage offers a cost-effective solution, particularly for less demanding applications, operating on the principle of magnetic repulsion and attraction, which translates digital pulses into mechanical shaft rotation. Thanks to its micro-stepping capability, the ILS150PP electronically divides a full-step of motion into numerous partial steps, significantly enhancing motion smoothness and resolution.
