The IMS300PP by Newport is a Long-Travel Linear Stage designed to meet the demanding requirements of high duty-cycle applications. It boasts a rigid aluminum body and robust components, ensuring exceptional load capacity and sub-micron resolution. The aluminum body not only provides extreme stiffness but also effectively minimizes bi-metal bending without adding excessive weight, thus reducing deflection under heavy loads. The IMS300PP incorporates recirculating ball bearing slides, which offer several advantages such as superior payload capabilities, precise linear trajectory, and extended lifespan over a wide travel range. These bearings address the issue of ball cage migration commonly encountered in crossed roller or linear ball bearings.
An essential feature of the IMS300PP is its preloaded, backlash-free ball screw, enabling rapid movement with short steps and quick settling time. The screw profile is thoughtfully designed to minimize heating effects, thereby extending the stage's operational life. As part of the ILS series, the IMS300PP complements the lineup by offering longer linear travel options, ranging from 300 nm to 600 nm. Despite its high performance, this linear stage remains a cost-effective solution suitable for precision industrial and laboratory applications. Position measurements are obtained through a 4000 pts/rev rotary encoder directly mounted on the ball screw, ensuring accuracy and avoiding potential screw/coupling errors.
To meet the demands of precision positioning requirements, the IMS300PP is compatible with a highly interpolated linear scale, providing feedback with a remarkable resolution of 0.1 µm. The design of the linear stage incorporates a completely closed structure with an upper rigid cover, offering protection to the drive train and enhancing its overall robustness and longevity. Moreover, the IMS300PP features a mounted origin motor side for initialization that can be repeated, limit switches to prevent overtravel, and elastomeric end-of-run dampers for smoothly engaging the emergency brakes. To fully optimize its performance, it is advisable to use a compatible motion controller with the linear stage. A motion controller can be conveniently connected using an optional 5-meter cable. The linear stage is also plug and play / ESP compatible.
