The M-BGM160MS by Newport is a metric Manual Goniometer specifically designed for tip and tilt applications. This advanced device rotates on a transverse axis above a platform, offering unrestricted access to the load. It is particularly useful for creating multi-axis rotation assemblies with maximum accessibility to the rotating section. One notable feature of the M-BGM160MS is its ability to enable orthogonal mounting of two adjacent-sized goniometers, resulting in two perpendicular axes of rotation intersecting at the same point in space. Moreover, the goniometer allows for the straightforward addition of a third rotation stage underneath the assembly, that goes through the same point of the original two axes. This direct mounting capability not only saves time during setup and design but also reduces overall adapter plate costs.

To ensure precise and accurate rotation, the M-BGM160MS utilizes a worm gear drive that is both hardened and precision grounded. This drive system is non-back drivable and offers various advantages, including higher torque capacity, overall accuracy, and improved repeatability. The goniometer incorporates tool-steel races that are precision grounded and single-row ball bearings, ensuring rotation that minimizes eccentricity and wobble with its smoothness. This capability to accommodate single-row ball bearings results in increased stability, stiffness, and load capacities. For added convenience and control, the M-BGM160MS features a center of travel home switch, allowing the platform to return to a level position easily. The goniometer's transverse axis rotation is limited to a maximum of 45°, enforced with mechanical limit switches. The primary design goal of this goniometer is to offer maximum free axis to the rotating platform, simplifying the mounting and stacking process.
