The MVN50 by Newport is a Vertical Linear Stage with precision ball bearings, designed to offer precise manual height control with a sensitivity of approximately 0.31 inches and micron-scale accuracy. This stage operates on the principle of an inclined plane, featuring two precisely machined opposing wedge blocks. The lower wedge block’s horizontal movement initiates upper wedge block vertical motion through inclined ball races. The ball races, made from precision-ground tool steel, are pre-loaded using a spring mechanism to ensure smooth and backlash-free linear travel.
In order to enhance sensitivity, the MVN50 employs a micrometer scale that rotates one division, resulting in a vertical displacement equal to half the linear displacement distance. By utilizing DM differential micrometers, the manual positioning sensitivity of the stage can be as fine as 50 nanometers. This stage is specifically designed to accommodate heavy payloads, as it possesses a high load capacity.
