The MVN80 by Newport is a highly precise Precision Ball Bearing Vertical Linear Stage designed for height control that is manual and boasts a sensitivity of 0.5 inches at the micron scale. This stage is particularly well-suited for vertical positioning tasks involving heavy payloads. Equipped with a sizeable mounting platform, it features a variety of English mounting holes that are tapped for effortless component attachment. The MVN80 is compatible with the UMR series Linear Stages, allowing users to create XZ or XYZ stage stacks with a horizontally oriented mounting platform. Additionally, it can be combined with TGN Tilt Platforms and UTR Steel Rotation Stages of the same size to facilitate multi-axis motion and accommodate specific system requirements.
The MVN80 utilizes an inclined plane design, comprising two precision-machined wedge blocks positioned opposite each other. Horizontal movement of the lower wedge is converted into upper wedge vertical motion through inclined ball races. This unique design leverages a 2:1 mechanical advantage, resulting in a sensitivity improvement of two times, where a micrometer translation corresponds to half the value of the stage's vertical travel. The ball races within the MVN80 are manufactured using precision-ground tools and are pre-loaded by a spring mechanism to ensure linear and backlash-free movement. Furthermore, one division rotation on the micrometer scale translates to half the distance of linear displacement, effectively doubling the sensitivity. For manual positioning, differential micrometers in the DM series can achieve an approximate sensitivity of 50 nm.
