The Newport PMC200-P is an advanced 2-Axis Controller System designed to efficiently drive compatible model 495 and 496 integrated rotation stages, along with 850 series motorized drives. This sophisticated system assumes complete position and velocity control for each axis by utilizing motion control ICs and a Motorola 68000 host processor. Being a digital control system, it eliminates the need for analog compensation and velocity feedback. Operating within a user-friendly, menu-driven environment, the PMC200-P allows users to exercise full control over axis movement through setup routines. These routines include the configuration of absolute job steps, compensating for backlash, and addressing positioning errors.

The PMC200-P can be operated in two distinct modes: Setup mode, wherein users configure the system for operation, and Execute mode, where the controller accepts motion commands. It features various built-in output devices, such as a Vacuum Fluorescent Display with 2 lines of 20 ASCII characters each, front panel LEDs that indicate controller modes and states, and an Audio Alarm that produces an audible tone to indicate actuator limits. Among its capabilities, the PMC200-P boasts timer functions, interrupt control, and memory control, all of which are provided internally. Notably, it incorporates a battery back-up memory that retains the latest configuration parameters. In the event of a power outage, the memory maintains the system parameter configuration from the last power down. Alternatively, pressing the RESET button on the rear panel will restore the system memory to its default parameters.

The front panel of the PMC200-P includes 5 switches and 1 potentiometer per axis, along with an emergency stop switch, offering a user-friendly interface for control and configuration. Real-time position and velocity displays, precise position tracking to 1 quadrature count, stall (limit) detection/protection, programmability with RS-232 and IEEE-488 interfaces, and a self-diagnostic power routine are additional noteworthy features. Moreover, the PMC200-P is equipped with a 45 WATT 90-132/180-264V international power supply, a multi-axis dedicated motion controller IC, and a user-defined, adjustable position entry capability, making it a highly versatile and reliable solution for motion control applications. The system is equipped with a controller keyboard, serving as the primary input device, but it also supports the use of a joystick.
