The PZC200 by Newport is a handheld Motion Controller designed to offer convenient and ergonomic speed control. Its primary function is to facilitate easy channel control for a PZC-SB switchbox through intuitive push buttons. The controller is equipped with a serial RS-485 computer link, enabling computer control of up to 256 units in parallel. Featuring up-down buttons, the PZC200 allows users to select the desired active switchbox channel. It also incorporates an RS-485 communication link and a push-button remote mode control/computer control swap. The controller includes through-holes for secure attachment to an optical table with a 1" or 25 mm grid of mounting holes.
When used in conjunction with an external PZC-SB switchbox, a single PZC200 is capable of controlling up to eight PZA12 actuators, one channel at a time. The controller offers two primary control modes: Local (manual control) and Remote (computer control). The currently selected mode is indicated by the color of a tri-color LED, with the default mode being remote upon power-up. In Local mode, users can turn the rotary knob located at the front of the PZC200 to choose from seven different speed settings for each direction, as well as a rest position. On the other hand, remote (computer) control utilizes the controller's digitally addressable RS-485 port, which can be connected to a PC's COM port or USB port.
To enable remote control, the PZC200 relies on an RS-485 to RS-232 converter, which can be complemented by an optional RS-232 to USB converter and a 1x5 RS-485 junction box, along with the necessary cables. The controller is compatible with the NanoPZ-Util software, accessible via ASCII commands, allowing users to configure the controller, monitor its status, and issue move or jog commands. This software is provided on a CD-ROM along with the controller. Furthermore, the PZC200 can also be utilized for computer control when connected to a PC's RS-232 COM Port using an RS-485 to RS-232 converter.
