The UTS100CC by Newport is a Motorized Linear Stage renowned for its robust construction entirely made of steel and driven by a DC motor. Boasting a generous travel range of 100 mm, this stage excels in applications where thermal stability and stiffness are essential, particularly in environments with uncontrolled temperatures. One of the outstanding features of the UTS100CC is its lapped nut, which ensures precision, incorporating an advanced decoupling and anti-backlash preloading system. A reduction belt enables high dynamic speed control and precise incremental motion capability, while an ultra-high resolution encoder, mounted on a diamond-corrected lead screw, enhances accuracy.

The UTS100CC stands out for its preloaded linear ball bearing slides and homogenous steel design, effectively eliminating bi-metal bending effects and minimizing thermal stress. Furthermore, it is ESP compatible, offering a Plug and Play feature, enabling quick recognition and configuration of operating parameters without requiring extensive user input. Additionally, the UTS100CC can be bolted directly to custom mounting surfaces using the provided thru-holes in the carriage or mounted to an optical table with a compatible M-PBN12 base plate.

With its diamond-corrected lead screw and matched, lapped nut, the UTS100CC ensures precision motion and high vertical load capacity. This stage is an ideal choice for cost-effective applications with lower demands, offering small incremental motions, low-noise operation, and high micro stepping capability when paired with compatible controllers. Positioning is achieved by the number of micro-steps and commanded steps, as the stepper motor directly attaches to the lead screw with a proprietary bellow coupling, exhibiting high-torsion stiffness without any gear or belt drive in between. The stepper motor’s high output torque minimizes lost steps risk, providing optimal motion sensitivity and linearity between the stage’s actual motion and micro-steps that are commanded.

The UTS100CC features an ultra-high resolution 20,000 cts/rev rotary encoder with a precision homing index pulse. The rotary encoder is directly mounted onto the lead screw, ensuring tight position control and eliminating most drivetrain error sources that may affect stages with indirect position read-outs. The DC motor allows for high dynamic speed control, achieving a maximum linear speed of 40 mm/s. The 11:4 belt reduction between the motor and the lead screw increases available output torque, reduces servo sensitivity, and ensures 0.3 µm incremental motion capability when used with compatible motion controllers and drivers. The UTS100CC can also be configured in an XY setup when equipped with M-CAP-M41 captive screws.
