The UniDrive6000 by Newport is a Universal Motor Driver designed as a key element within the Enhanced System Performance (ESP) architecture, which encompasses the ESP6000 controller card and ESP-compatible stages. This motor driver offers both physical and electrical compatibility with all stages that adhere to the ESP standards. Establishing a connection between a stage and the UniDrive6000 is facilitated by a shielded custom cable. This cable efficiently carries various control and power signals, encompassing essential indicators such as home signals, limits, and encoder data. Notably, this connection is finalized using a standard 25-pin D-sub connector.

The UniDrive6000 can be adapted to function with non-ESP compatible stages through the utilization of the Setup UniDrive sub-menu, conveniently accessible within the primary UniDrive menu. This driver can be directly linked to the main (100-pin) connector of an ESP6000 controller card. Expansion of the system to encompass up to six stages is attainable requires the installation of separate driver cards, each designated for an individual stage. To facilitate physical installation, the UniDrive6000 can be securely mounted within a 19-inch frame using the provided mounting ears. These ears are affixed by utilizing the supplied screws, which are fastened through designated exterior screw-holes. These screws establish a secure connection with permanent nuts located within the enclosure. A controller card with four primary connectors can be interfaced with the driver with a 100-to-100 pin cable or with a Universal Interface Box via a 100-to-68 pin cable.
