The LP-2A by Newport is a Precision Lens Positioner designed to handle optical components sized at 2 inches, providing five degrees of precision positioning with remarkable ease and accuracy. The design of the positioner prioritizes stability and security, with independent locks for each axis of translation and rotation. These locks firmly secure the mechanism, ensuring stable optical alignment. Importantly, engaging or disengaging each lock has a negligible impact on the positioning of other axes. This precision positioner incorporates a 100 TPI adjustment screw system, equipped with knobs featuring integral hex holes. The LP-2A has a zero-free play XY mechanism, which eliminates the need for grease to compensate for clearance between sliding components. This innovation results in enhanced long-term stability and accurate positioning while minimizing drift over temperature and time variations.

The LP-2A goes beyond basic translation and rotation capabilities. It offers smooth XYZ translation and true gimbaling about two coplanar axes that are orthogonal to each other. Furthermore, this positioner grants users five independent degrees of freedom, facilitating accurate optic positioning along any axis and in any plane. To accommodate various optical accessories, the LP-2A boasts a threaded central aperture that can hold optic holders for objective lenses, simple lenses, and optic retaining rings. In addition to the optic holder, it includes two non-marring Delrin retaining rings. The positioner's versatility extends to its mounting options. This positioner can also be securely bolted to a table using the provided slotted base plates on either side of the mount or mounted to a post using a range of English and metric threaded holes on the bottom. This flexibility enables easy adjustment of azimuthal orientation and a 3-inch optical axis height.
